Is this the right method for your line?
We tell you when this method works — and when it does not. Not every line can be lined, and not every line should be. Here is the honest criteria.
When it works
- Your line has cracks, root intrusion, or joint separation but is still structurally intact
- You want to avoid excavating a driveway, pavers, or mature landscaping
- A camera inspection showed offset joints, minor bellies, or corrosion but not a full collapse
- Your line is 3 to 10 inches in diameter and runs a relatively straight path
When it doesn't
- The pipe has fully collapsed — lining needs a tube to invert into, and a collapsed section will not support it
- A severe belly holds standing water — the liner follows the existing slope and will not re-grade a settled pipe
- The line has been severely displaced at a joint (more than 20% of pipe diameter)
- You need a larger diameter than the existing pipe and want to upsize — that requires replacement, not lining
The technical process, explained
Two access points, zero trench
Trenchless repair works through existing cleanouts or two small pits — typically 2×2 feet — instead of a continuous trench. The liner is inserted at one end and exits at the other, so your driveway, pavers, and landscaping stay exactly where they are.
CIPP lining
CIPP (cured-in-place pipe) lining creates a new pipe inside the old one — best for lines that are cracked, corroded, or root-invaded but still hold their shape. If the line is too damaged to line, we will tell you honestly and discuss replacement options.
New structural pipe, not a coating
A CIPP liner is not a spray-on coating. It is a felt tube saturated with epoxy resin that is inverted into your existing pipe, pressed against the walls, and cured with hot water or steam. When it hardens, it is a new, jointless, structural pipe with its own wall thickness — independent of the host pipe.
Process steps
Here is what happens at your property — and what you will see at each step.
- 1
Camera inspection
We run a camera through your line to confirm the problem and verify the pipe is a candidate for trenchless repair.
On your property: We locate the failure and tell you exactly where it is and what caused it. - 2
Cleaning and descaling
We hydro-jet and descale the line so the liner bonds to a clean surface.
On your property: Water and debris exit through our vacuum — no mess. - 3
Liner installation
The resin-saturated liner is inverted into the pipe and cured.
On your property: Air compressor and boiler running for 3–6 hours. - 4
Final inspection
We camera the new pipe and locate the repair area and confirm the work is complete.
On your property: A final camera run confirming the liner is properly installed.
What's different about trenchless sewer repair here
Tucson's caliche makes excavation expensive
Tucson sits on a hardpan layer of caliche — a cemented calcium carbonate soil that is notoriously difficult to excavate. In most of the country, digging a trench for a sewer line is a straightforward job. In Tucson, hitting caliche can double the excavation time and cost. That is why trenchless repair has a bigger cost advantage here than national averages suggest — you are not just avoiding landscaping restoration, you are avoiding the caliche excavation premium entirely.
Mature desert landscaping is expensive to replace
A trench across a paver driveway, a mature saguaro, or a palo verde tree means restoration work that often exceeds the plumbing itself. Pavers are expensive to remove and reinstall. A mature saguaro cannot be replaced. Trenchless eliminates that restoration cost — the savings on hardscape and landscaping alone can justify the method.
Pre-1970s neighborhoods with cast iron and clay
Sam Hughes, Armory Park, Blenman-Elm, El Encanto, and Menlo Park were built with cast iron and vitrified clay laterals that are now 50–80 years old. These lines are prime candidates for CIPP lining — the pipe is corroded and root-invaded but usually still structurally intact enough to accept a liner.

We run a camera inspection and show you the inspection. If the pipe is cracked, corroded, or root-invaded but still holds its shape, it is a candidate for CIPP lining. If it has collapsed or has a severe belly, we tell you that honestly and discuss a spot excavation or full replacement instead.
The camera inspection takes 30–60 minutes, cleaning and descaling takes 1–2 hours, and the liner installation and cure takes 3–6 hours. Longer or more complex lines can take additional time. We give you a timeline before we start.
No. We work through existing cleanouts or two small access pits about 2×2 feet. No trench across your yard, driveway, or landscaping. The pits are backfilled the same day.
In Tucson, trenchless is often less expensive than traditional excavation when you factor in caliche excavation costs and landscape restoration. The liner itself may cost more than a section of pipe, but you avoid the excavation premium, the driveway replacement, and the landscape restoration.
A cleanout is a capped access point that lets us reach your sewer line directly. We need direct access to the line to run a camera through it and to insert a liner. If your home has a cleanout, we use it — no digging required. If it does not, we can often access the line through a roof vent or by removing a toilet, but installing a cleanout is usually worth it on an older Tucson home because it makes every future inspection and repair simpler. We will tell you your options during the visit.
